Winter Golf Jacket Sale – The list
Puma Hielands Men’s Golf Jacket X
It is hard to initially get over the price tag of the Hielands Men’s Golf Jacket. £120 is a lot of money for a golf jacket, but this is not dissimilar to the prices of many other things in this market.
The Hielands Men’s Golf Jacket has a compact and sturdy fit. It is smart, like many items in the Puma warehouse. I like looking smart on the golf course and if you do too, you will certainly appreciate this jacket.
It is very comfortable, and I could swing freely while on the golf course, which ticks two key boxes for what you would want in a golf jacket. The pocket close to the breast is a little baffling, I don’t think this is integral to the design and this might leave some golfers scratching their heads, but it is unique at least.
Overall, this jacket is extremely solid and in terms of performance, you won’t be let down and the feel and comfort of the jacket will add strength to your wardrobe.
PROS:
- Very solid fit
- Smart colour scheme
CONS:
- The price tag might be hard to get past
RRP: £120
Sizes: S-2XL
Colours: Black / Blue Horizon / Intense Red

Abacus Men’s Ardfin Softshell Jacket
Abacus is a Swedish brand that has a strong tradition of producing weatherproof gear: so much so that they have clothed the last few European Solheim Cup teams. Here we test their new for 2024 softshell jacket called the Ardfin (named after a beautiful estate on the Isle of Jura containing a marvellous golf course).
It is fair to state that I have been a slow adopter when it comes to golf jackets. I am prepared to wear a rain jacket to avoid getting soaked, and I love a layering gilet/vest more than most. But a non-waterproof long-sleeved jacket? Well, I must say that I have been won over by this impressive garment.
There are two colour options – I tested a very smart navy melange. It’s also available in forest, which is a dark green. It is constructed from a soft and stretchy 3-layer softshell fabric and promises extra warmth and breathability along with windproof and water-repellent properties. There is a full zip at the front and two large zippered front pockets. There is also a little zippered breast pocket which you may never use. A toggle drawcord hem allows for adjustability.
On the course, I have worn this as a third layer over a polo and mid-layer. It is extremely comfortable and easy to swing in. It is also warmer than you might expect so is best paired with a lighter mid-layer. Previous experience with Abacus clothing has shown that my 173cm/74kg shape is best suited to a Large in jackets and this was the case here. There was no spare material hanging down when putting or chipping, and certainly no restriction when swinging.
I haven’t tested the Ardfin in wet conditions. It is badged as being water-repellent, but I don’t think I would be using it if rain were forecast. In that situation, the Ardfin softshell vest (reviewed separately) would be a better option because it would layer more easily.
I have also worn it as an outdoor jacket, for example dog-walking, and it is a great bit of kit. It comes highly recommended.
PROS:
- Comfortable and warm
- Practical design for multipurpose use
- Smart construction
CONS:
- Not particularly suited to wet weather
RRP: £120
Sizes: XS-5XL
Colours: Navy melange, Forest.

Original Penguin Logo Print Golf Wind Jacket with hidden hood
Sleek. That’s how this windbreaker is described on the Original Penguin website and it’s hard to argue. The bold print, a mix of stylised letters and the Pete mascot, stands out but it is not overbearing and the jacket is a great fit (I was in medium) and very comfortable to wear on the course.
But where this jacket really excels is in its weight and portability. While you’re putting on and taking off garments – and need to store them – you don’t want to be weighed down if you’re carrying like me.
This is incredibly light. In fact, it hardly weighs anything at all. It folds up tightly so it’s easy to store but it is not flimsy. It brushes off a breeze with ease and its hidden hood – stored within a high collar – provides added protection in a shower.
I had one minor complaint. Maybe it’s because I’m left-handed but I found the double main zip very difficult to manoeuvre. It just felt to me like it was the wrong way round and kept sticking as I tried to pull it up. Maybe you’ll have better luck.
PROS:
- Very lightweight
- Easy to store
- Brushes off a breeze
CONS:
- Main zip is difficult to manoeuvre
RRP: £75
Sizes: S-2XL
Colours: Black Iris / Caviar

Callaway Men’s Premium Full Zip Golf Wind Jacket
The Callaway Men’s Premium Full Zip Golf Wind Jacket is the type of top I absolutely love. Designed for golf I find these types of top to be useful as evry day tops too.
The top I reviewed is in peacoat and is a fine looking jacket. The material is 91% polyexter and 9% spandex. As expected it stretches with your golf swing. Coupled with the swing-tech technology this makes this a very un-restricting top.
I felt no restriction when swinging with this on despite it being a snug fit. It has a full zip, 2 lined front zip pockets and a zip breast pocket. It has a drop tail hem for a bit more protection which is adjustable should you feel the need for a snugger fit round the waist.
Being water and wind resistant it is an extremely versatile garment and one to keep to hand throughout the year. It will do nicely for cooler summer days or evenings and as an extra layer in the winter. For the price I cannot recommend this highly enough.
PROS:
- Weather resistant
- Looks great
- Versatile
- Cannot fault, particulalry for the price
CONS:
- None
RRP: £75
Sizes: S-2XL
Colours: Caviar / Peacoat Heather

Ashworth Quilted Scuba Jacket
I love this. Probably my favourite piece of apparel from Ashworth’s winter collection this year. The whole aesthetic is fantastic, I’m a big fan of understated style when it comes to my golf gear, and this fits that bill.
The quilting across the core of the body of the jacket is soft, stylish and doesn’t feel bulky at all when playing golf. On the whole, the Ashworth Quilted Scuba Jacket feels light and comfortable to wear which aides’ performance.
Don’t be worried about any suffocation of movement, this jacket has great breathability and freedom of movement. The polyester that packs the quilted panels means it’s also great for heat retention.
This will be completely useable as a final layer all year round for warmth. Although, a slight critique I would have is that this jacket isn’t waterproof or water-resistant.
However, it is still worth the investment, in my opinion, for its versatility alone. It is perfectly suitable for everday wear.
PROS:
- Versatile wear
- Looks amazing
- Fantastic heat retention
CONS:
- Not waterproof
RRP: £129
Sizes: S-3XL
Colours: Black / Navy / Navy-Bright Blue / Red-Black

FootJoy ThermoSeries Hybrid Jacket
I really, really liked the FootJoy ThermoSeries Hybrid jacket, and I will tell you why. Firstly, the look of the jacket is brilliant, in the colourway I have anyway.
Navy has my heart in golf clothing, as well as black for the Autumn and the Winter too. But what makes this colourway special is the zip line in the middle of the jacket and the small zip on the breast stand out perfectly in sky blue.
It is probably unlikely that anyone is going to use the breast zip pocket, but it adds to the aesthetic, and it just looks very good. In terms of performance, I wasn’t found wanting. It is a versatile piece of clothing that provides exceptional warmth and heat.
I really like the quilted woven panelling which adds to the stable and insulated feel of the jacket. It is a versatile piece of clothing too. If you’re out in town for the day in the Autumn or Winter or if you’re off to watch football or rugby etc – I can see how you’d choose to take the ThermoSeries Hybrid Jacket with you.
It is stylish and warm which are two huge boxes ticked as far as I am concerned.
Pros:
- Really good look in navy
- Versatile to wear off the golf course
- Full range of movementt
Cons:
- Possibly too expensive for an item that isn’t waterproof
RRP: £139.99
Sizes: S-2XL
Colours: Navy / Black / Grey-Charcoal

Lyle & Scott Tech Golf Jacket
This is one of the best winter golf jackets I’ve ever worn. Although not fully waterproof (the website says water repellant) it does an exceptional job of keeping you warm in the crazy autumn winter weather.
It is brilliantly wind resistant, keeps your body heat in, and has the added benefit of not really looking like a traditional golf jacket. Although this modern styling might not be to everyone’s taste, It does have some top features like the mock neck to keep you warm, elasticated sleeve cuffs so that your jacket doesn’t interfere with your grip, a couple of great big zipped side pockets, and a front chest pocket.
It does size slightly larger than the other L&S items I have tested, but it is great as I can get more layers underneath it. I love that I can wear this straight from the golf course into the bar and out to dinner without any strange looks, this has become my go to autumn winter top for the 24/25 season.
PROS:
- Great pocket space
- Warm
- Versatile
CONS:
- None
RRP: £120
Sizes: XS-2XL
Colours: Dark Navy / Pebble

Lyle & Scott Baffle Quilted Full Zip Jacket
You would not believe how easy it is to make a full swing in this jacket. Gone are the days of golf gear restricting your swing and having to take it off to hit decent golf shots, this is a must own for your autumn winter golf season.
This is another Lyle & Scott classic on course and off course garment that is suitable for any situation. I wore this out of the course the first week I received it an loved how it felt to wear. It is extremely wind proof, with the light insulation thick enough to not let the cool air through but light enough to not bother you in any way.
The nylon stretch panels make it easy to move around in no matter how funky your golf swing is, and the side pockets are zipped too which is a nice touch. It is on the larger side of medium so is better with layers underneath, but a all round great jacket for this winter.
PROS:
- Warm
- Flexible
- On course off course suitable
CONS:
- None
RRP: £135
Sizes: XS-2XL
Colours: Jet black / Dark navy

Under Armour Men’s UA Drive Pro Storm Lightweight Insulated Jacket
Having a lightweight water-resistant jacket option can be extremely useful in golf and this Under Armour Pro Storm lightweight insulated jacket was a joy to wear. I prefer to play golf in thinner jackets, if possible, weather pending of course, and this will allow me to do just that.
I really liked the navy colour, a clean aesthetic with some tidily placed Under Armour branding on the sleeves.
It has all the qualities needed to battle the upcoming winter months; Under Amour Storm technology that repels rain and fleece insulation to help stay warm admit the lowering temperatures. I think this jacket is also suitable for any time of the year, due to its lightweight nature.
I found it to be extremely comfortable and had plenty of movability when wearing it. At no point point did I feel it was restrictive. Additionally, it still kept me warm, but I did have an under layer beneath my golf polo, so I would recommend another layer if the temperatures are particularly low.
PROS:
- No excess bulk
- Water-resistant
- Lightweight
CONS:
- None
RRP: £100 / $110
Sizes: S-2XL
Colours: Black / Gray / Navy / Light Blue

Peter Millar Merge Elite Hybrid Jacket
I am not normally a fan of jackets when playing golf as I have struggled to find one that doesn’t seem to interfere with my swing. It is probably more to do with my swing than any garments so could this jacket change my mind?
First up, it looks quality, feels lightweight and is extremely comfortable on. I like the simplicity of two decent pockets on the front with no gimmicky pockets scattered elsewhere. The fabric down the arms is stretchy but comfortable so I quickly got over the concerns of anything interfering with the swing.
Though lightweight, it kept me warm and being wind and water-resistant it is a great choice as a winter jacket. I would have been happy zipping it all the way up and still feeling comfortable swinging a golf club.
I am not a big fan of massive logos plastered all over the place, so the subtle logos here suit me perfectly. I would be more than happy to wear this on and off the golf course.
The only decision that really needs to be made is whether you feel the price is worth the undoubted quality of the item.
PROS
- Comfortable stretch
- Versatile
- Lightweight
CONS
- Expensive
RRP: £215
Sizes: S-XXL
Colour: Navy, White/Starboard Blue, Billiard/Navy, Port Blue, British Grey, Jewel Blue, Balsam, Lakeside

Original Penguin Golf Insulated Mixed Media 80’s Jacket
This is a good-looking addition to the Original Penguin AW23 collection.
The OPG moisture management system to keep you dry in rainy conditions, along with a water-repellent coating to provide extra protection from the elements. I like the fact this isn’t a full blown waterproof but still offers some protection from lighter rain.
The front, back and sleeves all have extra padding and insulation to keep your body warm and dry, while the side and inside arm panels are jersey knit for comfort and warmth.
The jacket’s waistband is elasticated to provide some stretch if required, while the wrist cuffs are adjustable, thanks to a Velcro strap.
The three-colour design is stylish, while the inner lining has Pete the Penguin silhouettes throughout, which is a nice touch.
Due to its thickness, the Original Penguin Golf Insulated Mixed Media 80’s Jacket is slightly restrictive when trying to swing a club, but the warmth and waterproofing make up for that.
PROS
- Insulated
- Comfortable
- Stylish
CONS
- Thick so it restricts a full swing slightly
RRP: £139
Sizes: S-2XL
Colours: White, Grey, Lime / Black, Grey, White / Blue, Navy, Gold

Ping Vernon Jacket
Out of the box, my first impression of the Ping Vernon Jacket was that it was quite thick, though there need not have been any concern as the jacket is still incredibly lightweight.
A bugbear of mine is when golf outer layers do not actually provide the warmth required, resulting in the need to wear multiple layers. This is not an issue for the Ping Vernon as the quilted front provides excellent insulation and warmth, negating the need for multiple layers. In addition to this, the stretch fleece material used for the arms, back, and hem allows for complete freedom of movement in the golf swing.
While not advertised as waterproof, it does have a water-resistant finish, which holds up well in light rain, and a nice additional feature is the two front zip pockets, which are both lined.
The classic colour options and style of the jacket make it eminently wearable off the course as much as on it, which is becoming a notable feature of Ping clothing.
PROS
- Good value
- Well insulated
- Lightweight
CONS
- Length of jacket
RRP: £95
Sizes: S-3XL
Colour: Asphalt/Black, Classic Blue/Black, Navy, Fig/Black

Oscar Jacobson Hackney Jacket Lunar
The Oscar Jacobson Hackney jacket was a joy to wear. It is extremely stylish, versatile and a great addition to the wardrobe.
It is designed so it can be worn all year around which offers great value for any golfer.
The lightly padded top half of the jacket is water repellent, and the full zip is water repellent, making it a great option for any light showers. The material is also wind-resistant which gives you even more protection against the cold winter weather.
When wearing this during my round, I had excellent mobility for my full golf swing, the thinner material on the arms had a slim fit but didn’t restrict movement, and the whole feel of the product was extremely comfortable for the entire round.
Overall I really like this product, a sure staple for any golf trip where I am unsure of the weather ahead. It looks great both on and off the golf course, and I can’t think of any downside!
PROS
- Clean design
- Wearable on and off the golf course
- Comfortable and warm
CONS
- None
RRP: £129.99
Sizes: S-XXXL
Colour: Navy / Black / Lunar Grey

Puma Frost Quilted Jacket
Straight away, the Puma Frost Quilted Jacket was very comfortable on. I really like the quilted front, which adds a lot of warmth. You can also feel this when you place your hands in the pockets.
It is lightly padded and not too tight on your body, which is a beneficial feature when taking your swing.
The zipped pockets are a beneficial feature to help you keep tees and markers stowed away safely.
Out on the course, this jacket allows you to feel free in between shots and mid-swing as well. The sleeves are lighter, which definitely feels like you have maximum freedom of movement and aren’t restricted at all.
The technology used in this product is designed to protect against wind and also is water resistant helping to keep you dry in lighter rain conditions.
It has a full zip closure at the front, which may not look as smart as a quarter zip design, but this still allows you that degree of adjustability if it feels too tight.
PROS
- Lightweight jacket despite quilted front
- Smart colour scheme
- Light sleeves allow maximum freedom of movement
CONS
- Full front zip might not suit every golfer
RRP: £140
Sizes: S-2XL
Colour: Black/Slate Grey & Navy Blazer/Slate Grey

Stuburt Miller Padded Jacket
Stuburt is recognised for offering good value golf equipment but perhaps doesn’t have the reputation for the quality of some of its competitor brands. However, this season, there are a number of new products which are rather eye-catching.
This is constructed from 100% polyester and is described as offering optimum thermal properties with moisture transfer technology to avoid overheating. Features include ribbed cuffs and hem, which gives a tailored look. There is a waterproof full-length front zipper in contrasting colour, and two waterproof zippered front pockets, which were a good size. There is also a heat-sealed design to the upper chest and back, which offers visual interest.
I’m usually a medium in midlayers and jackets. However, the medium size in the Miller was on the small side, and the sleeves were a bit short. So, I would advise you to go up a size if in any doubt. Because of the close fit, I was only able to put the Miller over a single layer, and it was easy enough to swing in. With correct sizing, I think this would work well as a third layer, should conditions dictate. It isn’t waterproof (apart from the front zipper!) but it’s easy enough to put a waterproof on top.
I think it looks very smart on the course. It compressed down well should you need to take it off and stow it away in your bag.
As with the rest of Stuburt’s kit, it represents excellent value for money.
PROS
- Comfortable
- Stows away well
- Great value
CONS
- Sizing comes up small
RRP: £69.99
Sizes: S-XXL. XXXL in black
Colours: Black, French navy, Slate grey

Under Armour Storm Revo Jacket
Powered by an innovative insulation technology that is 33% lighter and 74% warmer, the Under Armour Storm Revo Jacket offers a simplistic, yet great styling for a winter golf jacket.
The 8-fin cross-section fibre creates great warmth which is thanks to the durable stretch-woven outer fabric and soft fleece lining. All this without adding too much weight, which can often happen with a bigger winter jacket where you feel the inability to swing.
Practically, the Storm Revo Jaket fits great to size and is comfortable, offering a great range of movement while out on the course and one of the features I mainly like is the ribbed sleeve cuffs prevent the sleeves from rolling down and interfering with your glove. Two zipped hand pockets and one zipped chest pocket come in handy if you’re trying to shield items from the elements.
All of this while using Under Armour’s Storm Technology to repel water in those light showers. Overall, a great jacket to have this winter and one I’m certainly looking forward to wrapping up in out on the course.
PROS
- Great fit & comfortable
- Offers good warmth
- Sleeve cuffs stop jacket from rolling down to hand
CONS
- None
RRP: £95
Sizes: S-3XL
Colour: Downpour Grey/White

FootJoy Men’s HydroKnit Full Zip Jacket
The HydroKnit jacket is part of the FootJoy Hydroseries range, and this model is badged as offering fully waterproof, breathable protection for golfers in cool, windy and rainy conditions.
In terms of waterproofness, it sits below the HydroTour and HydroLite , but it still offers a perfectly reasonable rating of 15,000 which means it will keep you dry in most conditions. It has sealed seams, DWR coating, two useful zippered side pockets and really comfortable elasticated cuffs. There is also a rarely seen feature in golf gear, namely a zippered inner chest pocket. I would have liked to see a drawcord closure at the neck and hem so you can really keep out the elements if the going gets tough but that’s a minor point.
I’m 74kg and 173 cm tall. The medium size fitted nicely, and I could use the Hydroknit as a third layer. It looks good, is a pleasure to swing in due to the lightweight stretch fabric, and should you need to take it off, it stows away nice and compactly.
So, this is a jacket for all but the most challenging conditions. It comes in a decent range of colours, has a 3-year waterproof warranty and offers good value.
PROS
- Lightweight construction
- Stretchy & comfortable
- Good range of colours
CONS
- Lacks drawcord closure at neck and hem
RRP: £134.99
Sizes: S-2XL
Colour: Navy, Black, Red, Black/grey, Navy/denim

Oscar Jacobson Highbank Jacket
I am a huge fan of the Oscar Jacobson Highbank jacket. A full zip hybrid jacket that can be used all year around. The detailing around the design of the Highbank is really impressive, subtle branding of OJ on the front and a really cool design on the inside of the jacket.
The true knit sleeves are a great addition, makes it very easy to slip on and off before and after the round and very comfortable to wear throughout the day.
The pockets are easy access on the side but don’t have zips which would be my only qualm.
Playing golf in it was no issue, all of the Oscar Jacobson apparel being released was excellent to play in. Perfect mobility for all types of swing and really comfortable.
Overall, one of my favourite additions for the Autumn/Winter golf ahead, lightweight enough to have multiple layers as an excellent design.
PROS
- Stylish
- Comfortable
- Can be used in in multiple conditions
CONS
- No zip pockets
RRP: £99.99
Sizes: S-3XL
Colour: Navy, Black

Castore Flyweight Jacket
The Castore flyweight jacket is a smart simple design. Lightweight, built with four-way stretch material and water resistant trims. An ideal addition for your winter golf wardrobe.
It was a joy to wear around the course, extremely comfortable and the mobility was excellent. There is adjustable cuffs on the sleeve that have multiple velcro options to dictate the tightness around your wrist.
The comfort of the jacket was also thanks to the mesh ventilation installed at the back of the jacket, a really nice addition to help you keep on top of your temperature.
Not that I have any intention on playing in the harsher of conditions any time soon, but if I did I probably wouldn’t reach for the flyweight jacket. It is suggested in the name already, but I’d opt for something heavier and more water resistant for those who venture into the braver golf weather.
PROS
- Smart
- Lightweight
- Great mobility
CONS
- Quite expensive
RRP: £165
Sizes: S-XL
Colour: Navy

Galvin Green Layton Windproof and water repellent jacket
How Galvin Green packed so much into the Layton windproof and water repellent wind jacket is a wonder to behold. It’s incredibly light but don’t worry about needing to layer up. The Thermore padding and insulation works incredibly well when the breeze starts to rise. And it also repels water without sending it straight down your front – a common problem with many other fabrics.
Galvin Green call it an athletic design, so let me dumb it down a bit for regular wearers. I don’t like cuffs that hang over the wrists but hate more those that fall down during a swing when you’ve pulled them up. The Layton is brilliant in this respect. Not only is the jacket a perfect fit for my medium frame, close fitting without being tight, if you decide to give your arms a little more room everything stays in place too.
You might think this is trivial, but it’s this kind of premium attention to detail – and which comes out when you’re swinging a club at 100mph – that really makes a difference to my concentration levels.
My only concern with the Layton wind jacket, and it’s minor in the scheme of things, is in the fabric that lines the front pockets. I’ve already caught my short fingernails inside it on a couple of occasions, and tees and ball markers have been attracted to it as well. I’m a little concerned this will tear will prolonged use. It remains to be seen.
PROS
- Great fit
- Attractive styling
- Cuffs stay in place
CONS
- I worry the mesh lining for the pockets may be fragile
RRP: £249 / $349
Sizes: S-2XL
Colour: Sharkskin-Black / Navy / White-Black / Cool Grey-Navy
