No. 9 Cranston West 4, No. 8 Narragansett 3

With the end of their season looming, the Falcons fought back to level the score before Angelina DiBiasio finished off an incredible three-set comeback to send them past the Mariners, 4-3.

Narragansett used is singles depth to jump out to an early lead. No. 1 Ambujam Lohmann cruised in her match, 6-1, 6-0, and No. 3 Maeve LaPlante was even better in her 6-0, 6-0 win. Cranston West’s No. 1 doubles team of SanviAggarwal and Mia Carlucci cut the deficit in half but the Mariners got a win at No. 4 from Lilianna Vitale that had them a win from taking the match.

The Falcons’ doubles teams got the rally rolling. With DiBiasio battling to stay on the court after dropping the first set, the No. 2 team of Gabby McDonough and Laila Russo came up with a 6-3, 6-4 win, which was soon followed by the No. 3 team of Alanna Desmarais and Danica Yin closing out their match, 6-4, 6-3.

EWG took control early, getting a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles from Abigail Andruchow and a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 from Clare Titus. When Alexa Barrett and Emma Jarvis won at No. 1 doubles, it looked like the Scarlet Knights were bound for the quarterfinals.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 20

Girls Tennis – Division I preliminary

No. 6 Chariho 4, No. 11 Portsmouth 0

The Chargers held out on the weather for good reason, then put on a show on the courts in a sweep of the Patriots.

While the rest of the state abandoned play, Chariho held out and let the afternoon sunshine hit – and then shined a little brighter with its play.

The singles order was in control from the start, with straight-sets wins by the Chargers’ top three players. Aubrey Campbell picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1, Olivia Madeira was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 2 and Olivia Gray was victorious at No. 3, winning 6-1, 6-0.

That set the stage for the No. 1 doubles team of Kenzie Andrade and Ella Murphy, who closed out a 6-3, 6-1 win to send Chariho to the quarterfinals.
