The Most Anticipated Book-To-Screen Adaptations Still To Come In 2025



There have been some stellar book-to-screen adaptations so far in 2025, from The Thursday Murder Club to Caught Stealing. While we’re slowly inching our way to Christmas, there are still many more delightful book adaptations to come. Of course, we’re holding space for Wicked: For Good, and who isn’t eagerly awaiting to see Jacob Elordi tackle Frankenstein’s monster in Frankenstein?

Book-to-screen adaptations are often successful as they already have an in-built fanbase, and the source material is usually strong. Just look at how massive The Hunger Games and Twilight became, with Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping due to land in 2026. Ahead, here are all the book-to-screen adaptations that will be released in 2025.

The Lost Bus

The Lost Bus is based on Lizzie Johnson’s 2021 book Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire. The movie version stars Matthew McConaughey as a school bus driver and America Ferrera as a school teacher as they fight to save 22 innocent schoolchildren from a deadly wildfire. It looks heartwrenching, terrifying, and action-packed.

The Woman in Cabin 10

The Woman in Cabin 10 is a psychological thriller based on Ruth Ware’s bestselling novel of the same name. She’s also penned other hits such as In A Dark, Dark Wood and The Turn of the Key, so we have high hopes for this adaptation.

The movie stars Keira Knightley, Guy Pearce, Art Malik and Hannah Waddingham, and follows a travel journalist on board a luxury cruise ship who believes she sees a passenger be thrown overboard. With twists you won’t see coming and a thrilling conclusion, this will be one to watch.

Regretting You

Colleen Hoover’s 2019 novel Regretting You has been given the Hollywood treatment, and this romantic drama looks like it will tug on your heartstrings in the best ways. The film is centred around a mother-daughter relationship, with Allison Williams playing Morgan Grant and McKenna Grace starring as her teenage daughter, Clara. After tragedy strikes and kills two family members, some unsavoury secrets emerge that Morgan and Clara have to sit with.

Regretting You will be released in theaters on October 24, 2025

Frankenstein

Academy Award-winning director Guillermo del Toro has reimagined Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein for Netflix, and the 2.5-hour film is bound to get people talking. Oscar Isaac stars as Victor Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi as the Creature, along with a stunning performance from Mia Goth. Frankenstein received the Graffetta d’Oro for Best Film at the Venice International Film Festival and was runner-up for the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival.

You can watch Frankenstein in select theaters on October 17 and on Netflix on November 7, 2025

Nuremberg

Nuremberg is based on Jack El-Hai’s 2013 novel The Nazi and the Psychiatrist. Starring Rami Malek, Russell Crowe, Leo Woodall and Colin Hanks, the film received a positive reaction when it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2025. It follows the Nuremberg trials, held by the Allies in the aftermath of World War II and saw Nazi Germany leaders on trial for war crimes. Nuremberg follows chief psychiatrist Douglas Kelley as he interviews Nazi military members to see if they are fit to stand trial, including Adolf Hitler’s close accomplice, Hermann Göring.

Nuremberg will be released in theaters on November 7, 2025

The Running Man

Stephen King is back for yet another book-to-screen adaptation, this time starring Glen Powell, William H Macy, Colman Domingo, Emilia Jones, Josh Brolin and Michael Cera. It’s actually the second adaptation of King’s 1982 novel, with a previous film being made in 1987. The premise combines a traditional game show with a deadly twist: a contestant is on the run for 30 days, pitted against a group of murderous Hunters. If he can stay alive for the entire duration, he walks away with $1 billion.

The Running Man will be released in theaters on November 14, 2025

Wicked: For Good

The sequel to Wicked is almost here. The film picks up years after Elphaba’s (Cynthia Erivo) epic performance of Defying Gravity, and delves into her new life as the Wicked Witch of the West. Her best friend Glinda Upland (Ariana Grande) has been given the new title of Glinda the Good, and is the Wizard (Geff Goldblum) and Madam Morrible’s (Michelle Yeoh) puppet. We’ll see the arrival of Dorothy and her little dog Toto, and see how The Wizard of Oz ties into Wicked.

Wicked: For Good will be released in theaters on November 21, 2025

The Housemaid

Freida McFadden is known for her extremely popular psychological thrillers, including her 2022 novel The Housemaid. Director Paul Feig has taken the book and turned it into a blockbuster, starring Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, and Brandon Sklenar. The film follows super-rich couple Andrew and Nina Winchester and their new housemaid, Millie. From the trailer, it looks like Nina is hiding some deadly secrets, and Millie is caught up in the web of lies.

The Housemaid will be released in theaters on 19 December, 2025
