Last week brought with it the official schedule for the upcoming second season of TGL. All of the action begins on December 28th from the SoFi Center.
As the schedule came out this brought an opportunity for each of the TGL teams to get creative with announcing their individual paths to what they hope is a team title.
There is a lot of creativity within the TGL world (including from a shot-making standpoint in the actual matches) and that is worth celebrating. Let’s do so by ranking all six schedule release videos from best to worst.
Number 1 – Atlanta Drive GC
History is written by the winners and right now Atlanta holds the pen. Leaning into being the champs is a flex that I can get behind.
Also I love the inclusion of St. André Golf here. It is always great to see golf outlets leaning into golf personalities. This is really smart.
Number 2 – Boston Common Golf
I am a sucker for 90s nostalgia and this video leans even beyond that with a nod to Frogger and Atari.
I suppose when you have the reigning Masters Champion on your team you have to up your game. I love this video and it would have been number one if not for the reigning champions aspect.
Number 3 – Jupiter Links Golf Club
This also has a 90s feel. It is sort of played as an infomercial, but it also has a WWE vibe to it.
The grainy look along with the “99th caller wins tickets” line is great. As a nod to the 90s again… we all lived that life where we made sure to try to time those calls perfectly to win.
Respect.
Number 4 – New York Golf Club
Keegan Michael Key is in this. That lifts it up a lot on its own.
Part of what is cool is this video also introduces Keegan as a new partner of the club. The partnerships involved remain a very fun and interesting part of the TGL experience so New York gets some creative points there from me.
Number 5 – Los Angeles Golf Club
This entire video just leans into being cooler than everyone else.
Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood are still riding high off of their European Ryder Cup performances and it was really smart for LA to lean into that (even if it is hurtful for us Americans).
Number 6 – The Bay Golf Club
This announcement isn’t a video, but it is a super psychedelic-looking poster.
Everything is working here. The colors are on point. The font is a ton of fun. It is simple and elegant which I love. Someone had to be last though and not being a video hurt this team. They can make up for it with their actual golf, though.
