First Impressions
The Callaway Tour Authentic is the premium offering in Callaway’s quite extensive range of Gloves. It is made from ultra-soft AAA cabretta leather infused with Griptac 2.0. Callaway claim it gives the feel of a second skin with optimal grip performance. There are increased perforations for moisture reduction and increased breathability.
The cuff is short, which I prefer, and is what Callaway describe as an Opti Dry cuff with quick dry technology and moisture wicking properties. The closure flap has 3 strips of elastic which provide some stretch but also seem to increase durability. This is an area that I have ripped many times on gloves in the past and I think this design mitigates against this risk.
On Course Testing
My usual size is a medium and this is what I tried. The fit seemed perfect. Quite tight initially, with a little give after light use. The leather is very soft but with enough substance that it feels quite durable. That was certainly my view after hitting a couple of hundred balls on the range. There was very little wear on the glove at all. It maintained a good size without any excessive stretching. I wet it to see how it would fare in rain and the grip was pretty good for a leather glove.
Final Thoughts:
This is a premium glove and performs as such. It has a premium price of RRP of £24 which is similar to other big name premium gloves. I did find it at several retailers at about £20. Nevertheless it a great feeling glove and I do not think there are many out there that will out-perform it.
