Best Winter Golf Mittens

Cobra Winter Mittens

I have never been a fan of wearing mitts on the golf course. I have found them a faff in the past, and I have just never bothered with them. I am probably the one in the wrong, as my playing partners look at across at my heat-deprived, blue hands while they are keeping toasty and warm. The Cobra Winter Mitts could well transform my approach to this item of clothing.

These mitts are black, which I like. I often wear boring and dull colours when I play golf, so the Cobra Winter Mitts suit me down to the ground. This is not to criticise Cobra or the product, as the colour suits the colder months. But I do like these mitts. They are soft and comfortable on the inside, and they don’t feel like a chore to wear on the golf course.

PROS:

  • Soft and comfortable inside
  • Smart look
  • Not expensive

CONS:

  • None

RRP: £26.99

COLOUR: Black

Mizuno Golf Mitts

The Mizuno golf mitts are made from nylon and polyester with a warm fleece lining. They come in one size and look great being mainly black but with a blue trim and a big mizen logo. They come in one size but are large enough to accommodate most hand sizes. They are also easy to put on and take off. I would add that I could not find the info on the Mizuno website so I do not know whether they are completely waterproof. Nevertheless gloves like these are a vital piece of kit when battling the elements.

PROS:

  • Comfortable
  • Warm
  • Easy to put on and take off

CONS:

  • None

RRP: £32 but seem to be widely available at a reduced price.

COLOUR: Black

Ping Cart Mittens

Reviewed by Dan Murphy

You can play golf in all sorts of conditions and many of us relish the challenge of taking on the elements. It’s great to get out on a winter’s day and most of us spend way too much time indoors at this time of the year.

But you can’t play golf unless you can hold on to the club reliably and you can’t do that if your hands are cold. A pair of mittens, then, is less a choice than a necessity if you want to get the most out of your game over a British winter.

Fortunately help is at, indeed on, hand in the form of a pair of Ping mittens. These feel toasty from the moment you slip your fingers into the individual, fleece-lined holes. You can get them on and off with a minimum of fuss, which is important when you are having to remove and replace them around every shot.

Reliable, smart and above all warm, I wouldn’t be without them.

PROS:

  • The clip to store them together is really helpful
  • Keeps hands warm
  • Can get them on and off easily

CONS:

  • You have to take them off to hit a shot

RRP: £37 / $50

Sizes: One size

Colours: Black

Men’s Under Armour Cart Mitts

Reviewed by Max McVittie

I’m not the biggest user of golf mitts in the world, may be to do with my fair weather golfer attitude. But I was pleasantly surprised by these Under Armour mitts and the lightness of them.

The water-resistant shelling is also massive plus. Having a set of mitts they you’re are comfortable knowing they will keep your hands warm and dry during windy and rainy round is invaluable. That trust is priceless, and these mitts certainly had my trust.

The only problem I had with these Under Armour was that they were a fairly loose fit, I would recommend sizing down. I’m normally a large and I found they were particularly big and for the colder weather I’d prefer them to be a bit tighter for insulation. That’s purely a personal preference.

However, they are oversized mitts – easy layering over golf gloves.

Overall, they were useful.

PROS:

  • Storm wind and water-resistant
  • Easy to get on and off
  • Warm and comfortable

CONS:

  • Not as thick as some others

RRP: £30

Sizes: S-M / L-XL

Colours: Black

Abacus Gullane Warm Mittens

Reviewed by Jonathan Taylor

Sometimes less is more, and the Abacus Gullane Warm Mittens prove that theory very well. The simple one size, one colour design of these mitts is what a lot of golfers are after, and the design can’t be grumbled about. The all-black design features a blacked-out Abacus logo on the cuff of the mitt which looks very smart.

The elasticated cuff helps hold heat in the glove, and inside, there are slots for each finger. There is a brushed fleece lining, which is very soft but not overly fluffy. There is still plenty of warmth provided by these.

Although these gloves aren’t listed as being showerproof, the outer coating can certainly hold up well if you’re caught in an unexpected shower.

If you’re partial to losing things, these mitts come with clips so that you can keep them together/attach them onto your bag rather than squashing it all inside.

PROS:

  • Fleece lined
  • Showerproof
  • Plain and simple design looks smart

CONS:

  • Only one colourway/style

RRP: £30

Colours: Black, Navy, Grey

TaylorMade Cart Mittens

Reviewed by Jonathan Taylor

Warm mittens really are vital when playing on a cold day.

The TaylorMade Cart Mittens are thoughtfully designed. They have a nylon outer shell and a thumb and palm insert for extra grip.

They have a thinsulate lining, which makes them warm and comfortable. The elastic cuff closure looks quite tight but allows your hand in and out very easily.

From what I can see, they come in one size, but they are extremely roomy and would fit all but the most enormous hands.

PROS:

  • Warm and comfortable
  • Easy to get on and off
  • Thumb and palm inserts are a nice addition

CONS:

  • None

RRP: £24.99 / $34.99

Colours: Black/Grey

Sunderland Thermal Mittens

Reviewed by Nicola Slater

These winter mittens from Sunderland are unisex, coming in one size and colourway. The first thing I noticed when putting them on was how much longer they seemed to be than mitts that I’ve previously owned.

Sunderland has added in a storm inner cuffs that are an extension of the mitt with a soft shell feeling. These mitts are showerproof, meaning that there is no need to compromise warmth on rainy days. Inside, they have Heatweaver thermal brushed fleece lining, which is very soft and provides lots of warmth.

The thing that baffled me the most was the velcro that was located under on the mid palm. After some research, I discovered that this was a hand warmer pouch which I’ve never seen before but is an excellent addition.

PROS:

  • Includes a handwarmer pouch
  • Long enough with inner cuffs
  • Showerproof
  • Fleece lined

CONS:

  • Only one colourway/style

RRP: £35

Colours: Black/Grey

Stuburt Winter Mittens

Reviewed by Jonathan Taylor

The first thing you notice with these winter mitts from Stuburt is the size. They are Large with a capital ‘L’! This is both a benefit in that they are very easy to put on and take off, but the downside is that they feel a bit loose which makes them less insulating.

The ‘mitt’ design has a thumb compartment separated from the rest of the fingers, rather than individual finger slots as you find with some mitts. This has the advantage that it’s easy to use a handwarmer should it be really cold. Personally, I prefer mitts with individual finger ‘slots’.

There’s a choice of two colours. The inner lining is soft and fleecy, and there’s a durable water-repellent fabric covering the palm and thumb which makes the glove showerproof as well as breathable and windproof.

PROS:

  • Warm and comfortable
  • Durable construction
  • Works with a handwarmer

CONS:

  • Single size is pretty large

RRP: £19.99

Colours: Black, Navy

Oscar Jacobson Winter Mittens

Reviewed by Tom Bullough

Whilst nobody wants to admit it, winter golf is just around the corner. Today I got the pleasure of testing the Oscar Jacobson winter mitts. Whilst the weather was cool and perhaps didn’t warrant a pair of mitts, they were still great to try.

Firstly, they look great, plain colour with some stylish Oscar Jacobson branding. Really easy to keep together thanks to the helpful clip to keep them as a pair. The knitted cuff with wind resistant fabric made it extremely easy to slip them on and off when preparing for a golf shot or putting them back into your bag if no longer required. The anti-slip resistant palm is a nice addition to the mitts as well, the grippy material was ideal to keep hold of your belongings instead of juggling your phone, tees and balls through cotton mitts.

All in all, a really nice addition to your golfing wardrobe. Perfect for winter golf and even outside of the golf course when the winter weather arrives.

PROS:

  • Warm & comfortable
  • Anti slip material in the palm
  • Small clips to keep them together

CONS:

  • None

RRP: £31.99

Colours:  Navy, Black

Motocaddy Deluxe Trolley Mittens

Reviewed by Nicola Slater

This has to be one of the simplest yet greatest winter golf accessories. Say goodbye to cold hands whilst holding your golf trolley with these Motocaddy mittens.

They easily attach to your trolley handles to keep your hands warm while steering your clubs around the course. There is a small opening to allow your thumbs out so you can control the speed of the trolley and stop and start the power.

They have a really thick fleece lining, which makes these exceptionally warm. There is also added room at the ends to add hand warmers should that be required.

If you do decide to carry some days, these can still be used without the trolley, but both hands are attached together.

PROS:

  • Easily attached to the trolley
  • Very soft and warm
  • Versatile

CONS:

  •  Not waterproof

RRP: £29.99

Colours: Grey Four

Adidas Golf Winter Mittens

Reviewed by Nicola Slater

These are really warm and comfortable golf mittens, mainly down to the polar fleece lining inside, which provides a lot of warmth.

The one size fits all size worked nicely and there was enough room left to add a hand warmer if the temperatures drop really low.

They have a gripper palm texture, which I found was helpful when taking things in and out of my golf bag and for keeping hold of my trolley.

The elastic around the wrists is adjustable so you can get the perfect fit and keep the cold out. This elasticity also makes the mittens easier to get on and off.

Both gloves can be clipped together, which is excellent for storage.

These are not fully waterproof but are water resistant enough to work really well in a light shower.

PROS:

  • Warm and soft fleece lining
  • Easy to get on and off
  • Adjustable

CONS:

  •  Not waterproof

RRP: £30

Colours: Grey/Black
