For most Costco members, including Gold Star and Business members, Costco opens for shopping at 10:00 a.m. local time Sunday through Friday. It opens a half hour earlier on Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. local time. 

Executive members have access to early shopping hours each day. Sunday through Friday, executive members can get into Costco at 9:00 a.m., an hour before it opens to other members. On Saturdays, executive members can get into the store a half hour early at 9:00 a.m. 

What time does Costco close?

Costco closes at 8:30 p.m. local time on weekdays for all shoppers. On Saturdays, stores close at 7:00 p.m., while on Sundays, they close even earlier at 6:00 p.m.

When are Costco’s exclusive shopping hours for executive members? 

Costco’s Executive Members, who pay $130 per year for membership, get access to exclusive early shopping hours every day of the week. 

Sunday through Friday, executive members get an hour of exclusive morning shopping from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. On Saturdays, they get just half an hour from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. 

All of Costco’s Executive Member exclusive shopping time is offered in the morning, before stores open to other members. As of this article’s last update, Costco does not offer exclusive shopping benefits in the evening.

When are the busiest & least crowded days and times at Costco?

If you’re an executive member, taking advantage of the early morning exclusive shopping hours available to you is probably the best way to avoid large crowds and get your shopping done as quickly as possible. 

For everyone else, though, avoiding crowds at Costco means choosing to visit during days and times that tend to be less busy. Every Costco is different, so the best way to get a sense of the peaks and lulls at your local warehouse is to look at Google Maps and examine its “popular times” feature. This feature displays a bar graph for each day of the week that visualizes how busy, on average, a store tends to be at each hour of the day. 

In general, however, weekends are by far the busiest days at warehouse clubs, as most folks don’t have work and use the weekend to restock on essentials and prepare for the week ahead.

During weekdays, typical after-work hours (5–7 p.m.) tend to be the most crowded, while shoppers who visit during the last hour Costco is open (7:30–8:30 p.m.) are less likely to have to deal with long lines and crowds. The first hour of each weekday also tends to be a little less crowded.

Within the week, Mondays and Fridays tend to be busy, so most anecdotal reports recommend visiting on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday if possible.
